Assignment: Most of these questions should be answered using one or two short paragraphs, max. Type your answers below each question. For each chapter, you must properly cite at least one outside (legitimate, scholarly) source.
You can provide one list of references at the end of the assignment (instead of after each question).
1. A: Think about an example of praiseworthy behavior you have observed recently, at work or anywhere else. Imagine you have an opportunity to give this person positive feedback. Applying the list of guidelines, write a brief statement of positive feedback for the person.
B: Find someone (it can be the same person from above or someone different) who is worthy of praiseworthy behavior (even for something small) and deliver the feedback. What happened?
2. Think about a current or former workplace of your own where role overload was a problem.
A: What was the evidence that role overload might have been a problem? Did management do anything to address role overload? Describe if the steps taken are in line with what is recommended. In answering this question, include employee behaviors you witnessed BEFORE employees left the firm. In other words, a high turnover rate may be evidence of role overload, BUT that is generally the last thing that you see. There are a bunch of things that happen before the "quit." Focus on those. If you have never had a job where role overload was a problem, contact a friend or a relative who has and discuss their experience.
B: What are the four factors that influence an employee's job dissatisfaction (or satisfaction)? Which one matters to you most?
C: Consider your current job or a job you recently held. Overall, were you satisfied or dissatisfied with that job? How did your level of satisfaction or dissatisfaction affect your behavior on the job? Is your own experience consistent with this chapter's models of job withdrawal and job satisfaction?
