Assume that you are tasked with conducting research for the GGC Administration. Specifically, your job is to administer a survey to help the Administration decide whether or not GGC should begin to offer a new major in Nonprofit Management. Assume that the Administration has access to a full list/database of GGC students that includes information about each student's age, whether they are part-time are full-time, their e-mail address and phone number. The Administration has some initial suggestions about how the survey should be administered.

1. First, the Administrator mentions that he has been contacted by a dozen students over the past month who are particularly interested in pursuing this major at GGC.  The VP suggests that you call each of these students and ask if they would be interested in filling out the survey.  What specific sampling technique is the VP recommending?

 2. Next, the VP proposes administering the survey in the Dining Hall.  He suggests that you should stand at the entrance of the Dining Hall during lunchtime and ask students if they would be interested in filling out the survey while they eat lunch.  What specific sampling technique is being described by the VP?

 3. Now what if the VP suggests that you make sure that 25% of the respondents are freshman, 25% sophomores, 25% juniors and 25% seniors. What technique would you use?

 4. After giving it more thought, the VP realizes that he should use the student database to help recruit students to participate in the survey. He suggests selecting a random starting point on the list of students and then e-mailing every 25th person on the list to see if they would fill out the survey.  What specific sampling technique is the VP suggesting?

 5. Now he suggests just randomizing the order of the list of students and selecting the first 100.  What technique is this?

 6. Because you are taking Marketing Research, you mention that maybe he should ensure that a mix of both part-time and full-time students are represented in the sample of survey respondents.  Therefore, you suggest sorting the list/database of students into 2 groups - part-time & full-time.  From each group you will randomly select 100 students who will receive a link to the survey over e-mail.   What specific sampling technique are you proposing?

 7. You ask your Marketing Research professor her opinion. She suggests sorting all of the students on the list into 10 groups based on the last digit of their student ID number (0, 1, 2, etc.).  Then you should randomly select a number between 0 and 9.  Each student having this number as the last digit of their student ID number will receive an e-mail requesting that they fill out the survey. What specific sampling technique is your professor describing?
