#1: Lilia de la Cruz, citizen of Argentina, 65 years old, retired; never been to the U.S. before; wants to come to the U.S. to visit her son.

• What additional information would you like to know to assist her in making a strong case for a B-2 tourist visa? Think about what a consular officer might want to know more about in evaluating the PURPOSE/INTENT of her visit to the U.S.

#2: Mohamed Habib, citizen of India and resident of Bardhaman, West Bengal, India; 30 years old and single; wants to come to the U.S. to attend annual conference of the Association of Information Technology Professionals

The purpose of these reading activities throughout the semester is to help guide you through the various reading materials/websites assigned each week. Please feel free to work with others from this course to work through these hypotheticals, but each of you should turn in your own independent work for feedback. If you have worked with another student in the class, please just note who you worked with in your assignment submission.

These reading activities/skills practice exercises are not designed to trick you, but on some level to mimic how it can feel as a paralegal to be handed a new client case. Even if it is a type of immigration case you have handled before, each client, each country, is different so you often have to spend time at the beginning exploring the various agency websites to track down information, including carefully reading the instructions for how to complete cases as required by the U.S. Consulate in the specific country. But, just like if I were your supervising attorney, I would want you to reach out with questions.
