Background:
You are a consultant hired to examine Kelley's Cut and Curl is a very popular hair salon. It offers high-quality hairstyling and physical relaxation services at a reasonable price, so it always has unlimited demand. The service process includes five activities that are conducted in the sequence described below
The time required for each activity is shown in parentheses):
Activity I: Welcome a guest and offer homemade herb tea (10 minutes):
Activity 2: Wash and condition hair (10 minutes)
Activity 3: Neck, shoulder, and back stress release massage (10 minutes):
Activity 4: Design the hairstyle and do the hair (25 minutes):
Activity 5: Ring up the guest's bill (5 minutes).
Each activity has one employee dedicated to it. For the following questions, assume unlimited demand. Also, assume tha the employee at Activity I only admits new guests at the rate of the bottleneck.
You are planning to create a management report to Kelley and need first to calculate the following measures and calculations. In your answers, show all work.
POST:
You are planning to create a management report to Kelley and need first to calculate the following measures and calculations.
Which resource is the bottleneck?
What is the capacity of the process?
What is the flow rate at Kelley's?
What is the utilization of the employee at activity 3?
What is the cycle time? How can Kelly use this information?
Calculate the measures from 1-5. Using the information collected, write a management summary of the results, being sure to include each of the measures- explaining what the measure means and what the calculated result says about Kelly's Cut and Curl. Of course, it may be helpful to provide a Process Flow diagram.
RESPONSE:
Select one student's response from the grouping in the class that you believe best describes Kelley's situation (other than yours) in the salon.
Assume for a moment that there is some upcoming road construction around the salon making it difficult to get inwhich has resulted in demand no longer being unlimited. In a narrative (no calculations needed), explain to Kelley what changes they might expect at the salon if demand is no longer unlimited.
