Balanced Scorecard

Having a balanced scorecard is vital to the success of a healthcare organization. A scorecard is an analytic indicator of process performance and allows decision-makers to find areas of improvement to target. It is truly a scorecard of organizational or departmental success. This activity will allow you to analyze an existing scorecard and find areas for improvement. An existing scorecard for your hypothetical organization is attached. Additionally, below are some of the scenarios that are playing out at your hypothetical organization. How you analyze and react to these scenarios will affect your future scorecard readings. Last words: healthcare is a for- profit business; your decisions should embrace this fact while remaining ethical and maintaining quality care. Potentially Problematic Scenarios Playing Out at Your Organization (to address in your analysis): A group of 5 flamboyant physical therapists is well liked by patients and staff. However, the therapists like to have extensive conversations throughout the day and their productivity only averages 75% as a result. The company goal for physical therapist productivity is 90% treatment time in an effort to maximize the therapists billable hours (need seeing patients 90% of their minutes worked on a given day). The organization can only bill revenue for minutes while seeing patients... Your healthcare organization is embracing an old proprietary computerized billing system. It is slow and not as functional as newer systems on the market. The new systems are more efficient and can save more time. Part of the increased efficiency with the new systems will replace 2 human billing positions. One of the human positions is a billing specialists that has been with the organization for 35 years. Your organization has numerous department heads (nursing, rehab, speech therapy, radiology, & etc.). The department heads are only focused on their individual departments performance alone and the organization is suffering as a whole. These departments are not coordinating patient schedules to maximize treatment times for all departments, and not communicating between departments with efficiency. Some department heads are not advocates of other heads to make matters worse. Part 1. Problem Analysis PowerPoint (with audio narration) Create a PowerPoint, that identifies and analyzes the above problematic scenarios and explores process improvements to rectify these issues. Pretend you are presenting in a department head meeting at the hospital and you are first identifying process deficiencies, and next proposing relevant solutions (more efficient processes).
