Running head: FINANCE ENVIRONMENT Finance Environment Veronica Hernandez HCS/385 October 3, 2017 Larry Gonzales 1 FINANCE ENVIRONMENT 2 Finance Environment The healthcare system has been developing progressively from infrastructure, staffing, quality to technology. Concerning these changes, economic changes are also hit all health organization, especially where services are provided to the community. The economic trend of the health care payment system has involved patients and staff. One of the economic trends is rising in health cost (Harrington et al. 2008, p54). The second trend is the shortage of workforce, and the third trend is poor outcomes (Harrington et al. 2008, p54). All the three trends have been associated with the development and other factors like globalization. The payment system can affect both staffing and the community being served by the healthcare. Also, the payment system can have an adverse impact on the economy under which the community is surviving. Rising in health cost being one of the economic trends has propelled many issues in the healthcare system. On the ethical issues, for instance, some patients are needy to afford the medical bills. Taking an example of chemotherapy treatment and control, the medication can be afforded by a few individuals. Regarding the economy growth, some of these medical expenses are too expensive for a standard person to afford. Due to affordability, some donors volunteer to support the treatment of these conditions but they fail to understand the machine and equipment maintenance is required. This economic trend, therefore, affects the quality of services in the healthcare system (Brehm, et al. 2009, p56). Regarding the ethical issues, some cases are futile and require emergency attention and intervention. Considering the rise in health cost, some of the futile cases are left unattended. It's very unethical to fail to provide care as support as a healthcare worker, but due to economic trend, we observe more on the profitability of the organization. The other trend is the shortage of workforce. Having in mind that, paying the health workers is expensive, heath care system have regulated the number of staffs to cut down the payments. With few staffs, the workforce is low and of poor quality. The economic trend in the healthcare payment system tries to balance the charges paid for services and salary scale for the workers. The two antagonistic demands economically impact on each other. For instance, a private healthcare system, it is more of profit oriented than the quality of the services. Regarding FINANCE ENVIRONMENT 3 the workforce required to maintain quality, more staffs are needed, and therefore, shortage of workforce is an issue in the payment system. Concerning ethical considerations, workforce shortage propels the healthcare system to provide expensive services that don't meet the quality. It's clear that every patient has the right to choose treatment but the economic trend of payments has obstructed choice of quality services. Another compliance issue is having enough qualified workers in the facilities. The poor payment system discourages the skilled workers from working and reduces their motivation. According to the infection control mechanisms, the ratio of patient to medical practitioners should be 1:1 which can't be achieved by the payment system. The third trend is poor outcomes. Due to the change of economy, affordability of technology for quality services is another issue (Leive, & Adam, 2010, p34). The advance of technology in the health care system has caused an increase in pricing and payment system. Starting with workers, technology has reduced a portion of the workforce and thus cutting down the staffing burden. This is an economic issue to the community. Again, technology has advanced in quality services although due to the affordability of technology advancement, health system continues to provide poor outcomes. The increase in demand for services has called for competition. Competition in services comes with poor outcomes in some facilities while others strive to provide the best qualities. Affordability is an ethical consideration which should be prioritized before attending a patient. Ethically, one has the right to be given the best service, but due to payment difficulties, this remains an issue. Regarding the trend in the payment system, poor outcomes become a burning issue since the economic trend doesn't favor everyone. References FINANCE ENVIRONMENT 4 Harrington, Charlene, and Carroll L.
