Binary mixtures of some water and alkylamines are characterised by the presence of two distinct liquid phases, one rich in water, the other rich in amine. This phase behaviour is of technological interest for CO2 capture, as it has been demonstrated that the boiling temperature of the reboiler can be lowered significantly due to the presence of the miscibility gap.
