Brown and Presley were interested in characterizing benign hyperchromatic crowded groups (HGC) identified in atrophic changes in women more than 40 years of age. They performed a slide review of 20 subjects whose Pap test was reported as NIL. Atrophic changes present. Of interest to Brown and Presley was the use of age to predict numbers of groups of cells characterized as hyperchromatic crowded groups. Groups were characterized by their uni- dimensional nature, elongated nuclei and chromatin darkness and based on the area on the slide they covered. The following data was collected: Table 1.
