This is the question the two posts below answered: Do some research into Rand's rational egoism and then either defend her theory as a reasonable way to make moral judgments or argue that her way of thinking about morality is untenable.Pick a situation like charity, community service or government assistance (Welfare) and, after providing what you feel would be her attituded toward the action, discuss if you feel she is morally right.

Post 1:

Through my research on Ayn Rand's theory of Ethical Egoism, the theory is flawed in many ways for people and society to work together to make things better both morally and ethically.Rand's belief in her theory with focusing on one's self, but we all should also consider helping other people in their life.Rand's standard theory on ethical egoism is that individuals need to be more concerned about their selfishness for their good and not others.Rand's theory also seems to put more emphasis on only humans and not other creatures.One example is trying to save an injured dog.According to Rand's theory, only a weaker person would try and help the dog because there is no species-identification, only a "genus-identification" with the suffering dog. Ethical egoism seems to also be somewhat racist according to moral philosophers.Many people live their lives every day without discriminating against others without any biases on a person's race, religion, sex, or sexual orientation.According to ethical egoism, we should not try to be impartial, we should distinguish between ourselves and everyone else, and give ourselves preferential treatment. Volunteer community service such as volunteering (for free) to deliver food or do food drives for needy families, cleaning up an elderly person's yard, or repainting low-income houses makes individuals feel good, and it is the right thing to do.During my research, it is said that Rand thought of charity and kindness as not being major virtues unless it met certain criteria or appropriateness.Some of the conditions Rand felt needed to meet were if the recipient of the charity or kindness was worthy of the help, is it in one's rational self-interest to help, and even if someone can afford to help.(Badwahr/Long)

If all of Rand's conditions were met while doing any of these community service events, she would most likely be alright with them.If not, she would most likely be quite perplexed as to why people would help others in need if it did not benefit those doing the help.

Ayn Rand is the inventor of Objectivism. Which in itself is an interesting theory, with Rand herself saying ""the concept of man as a heroic being, with his own happiness as the moral purpose of his life, with productive achievement as his noblest activity, and reason as his only absolute". Everyone has their own lives and well beings. The essentials of objectivism are reality, reason, self-interest and, capitalism. In a way we all have control of our own lives and the way we choose to live them. Advocating selfishness for ones goals is okay and saying that asterism is wrong. She believes that reality is objective, which for many people is true. Your world is what is it, not what we want it to be. Our reason is how we understand the world around us, and stating that our highest purpose should be what makes us happy, what makes our lives successful. I love that because we can all get swept away in others desires or others problems and lose ourselves in them. With Rand's views on selfishness, it can be productive more than actually selfish. These all add up to the result of life, purpose, and self-esteem.Charity would be a good way to express her philosophy. Charity in itself is a good thing for our people and you should give help if you can, but not if you can't afford it.You can give to others but you shouldn't give up what you need for someone else because it only hurts you in the end and your life. She expresses multiple times about how if this is our only life then why wouldn't we live it the best ways that we can? Why wouldn't we shoot for the stars if we could? I love her philosophy and since learning about it I try to apply it to my everyday life. It's both empowering and educational in the way of me still learning what my morals are as a young adult.
