Case Study: gganization John Holmes is the founder and President of a small company that conducts technology consulting business with the government. At the moment the company is organized in the following way. There is one {I} consultant who visits clients all over the island. Although the main clients are in the metropolitan area, there is always one or another in various towns to the south or east of the country. An assistant manager works in the office who works the small warehouse for the receipt and dispatch of some technology products that they obtain for their clients as well as billing and collection. Accounting is paid for professional services although the assistant performs certain functions as requested by John. When John is out of the otce for meetings, the manager takes care of everything in the ofce. However, when she has to do errands outside the ofce, the Administrative Assistant stays with two technicians in charge of managing the networks and the customer databases. These employees are very important as they are the ones with ill lcnowledge of the company's computerized systems. They have developed the successil applications that have led to the growth of the company. John makes all the decisions in the company. Since its inception, John has shown particular care in delegating important tasks or decisions. He understands that there is no one better than him to make these decisions no matter how small or routine they are. On occasions, processes have been stopped because John is not available when he is needed. This shows part of his character as President. He behaves in an affable and calm manner= making the work environment friendly and pleasant. From the beginning he has imposed his rules and hopes that everyone knows them. However, there is no policy and procedure manual that summarizes all of them. Recently, the company obtained a contract which will increase the volume of its income and certainly the work that each employee will have to do. The contract establishes that the company must provide technology consultancies to ten (Ill) government agencies. l[ne of these is the largest budget in the country. The agencies are located in the four cardinal points and each requires weekly visits by a company consultant. In addition, you will have to create three new applications which the government is very interested in putting into operation as soon as in seven (7') months. John is happy with the opportunity that this new contract will provide his company but be is somewhat concerned because he does not know if he will be able to do the work with the current organization that the company has and wonders if he will have to make changes to the organizational structure
