Question 1 (50 points): In order to plan the staffing levels, the manager of a supermarket is trying to determine if there is strong evidence that Friday sales are higher than Sunday sales. To answer this question, he decides to gather random samples of 28 Fridays and 27 Sundays from a population of several years of data. The sample mean sales for Fridays was 38513 KWD with a sample standard deviation of 3287 KWD and the sample mean sales for Sundays was 38380 KWD with a sample standard deviation of 4710 KWD. The samples are drawn independently. From previous research can be assumed that the populations are normal, and variances can be assumed to be equal a) Test at 5% to see if the population mean sales for Fridays is greater than Sundays. i. State the hypotheses. (5 Points) ii. Write the test statistic and find its value. (5 Points) iii. Find the critical value(s) from the appropriate table and write your rejection criterion. (Use the critical value method) (10 points) iv. Write a detailed interpretation of the test result. (5 Points) b) Construct an appropriate confidence interval to test the hypotheses.
