Capstone Paper Outline

Smart Software Holding, LLC$,$ is exploring the idea of creating a new fully self$-$contained subsidiary $($called SmartApps Corporation$)$ to create and implement applications for the smartphone market. The CIO has instructed you to plan and prepare for this venture. You are asked to prepare a full, complete, comprehensive document that describes all aspects of what will be needed in order to provide the necessary information systems to support this development.

Here is a brief summary of many of the topics that you should cover:

Development Introduction$/$Overview

$$ Briefly describe the $($fictional$)$ SmartApps Corporation size, location, and other pertinent information.

$$ Briefly describe $3-5$ ideas you have for appropriate smartphone apps that the corporation might develop.

$$ Explain the kinds of experience and skills necessary for new employees.

$$ Briefly describe the various information systems that will be necessary to develop $($or acquire?$)$

Feasibility Analysis

$$ Provide a feasibility analysis for the development that will include a review of the operational, technical, and economic aspects of the various information systems.

$$ Research software development life cycles $($SDLC$)$ and select an appropriate SDLC for the development of new smartphone apps.

$$ Provide a description of the major phases in the selected SDLC$,$ and then summarize the steps within each phase as they apply to developing smartphone apps.

Development Plan

$$ Discuss the methods that will be employed to conduct development estimations, including task duration and resource identification.

$$ Use the estimation techniques to create a development plan, including task identification and duration, resource identification, and major milestones for the development of the needed information systems.

$$ Include a graphic image, such as a Gantt chart, to help describe your development plan.

Risk Analysis

$$ Discuss the methods that will be employed to conduct risk identification for the development of the information systems.

$$ Use the risk identification methods to define the major risks to these developments.

$$ Develop a mitigation strategy for each of the major risks.

Systems Analysis

$$ Strategies

o Provide a description of the systems analysis strategies that might be used in the selection of a design for the smartphone app developments. Review at least $2$ different strategies.

o Include an analysis of the pros and cons of each strategy and a selection of the best strategy for smartphone app development including justification of your selection.

$$ Requirements Elicitation

o Provide a thorough description of the techniques that you will use to elicit the requirements for smartphone apps.

o Discuss how the requirements will be documented.

Data Modeling and UML

$$ Process analysis

o Describe the information$-$gathering techniques that you will use to obtain process and system data requirements for the various information systems. This is not the database, but rather, the internal processes and required data for the developing smartphone apps.

o Provide a description of the processes that will be supported by the information systems and the data that are required to perform those processes.

$$ Data model

o Based on the information that was developed in the process analysis, prepare a data model for a prototype smartphone app.

o The data model should include definitions of the data structures required in the application as well as UML diagrams to depict the data model. Note that much of the internal data may reside in classes that should be depicted in the model.

Database Design

$$ Summarize the steps that are taken to analyze the database requirements for the various information systems needed by the company.

$$ Summarize the database requirements that were developed from your analysis.

$$ Provide a discussion of the approach that will be used for designing the database components of the information systems.

$$ Justify your strategy with reference to the database requirements for the application.

Ensure that your paper is sufficiently detailed to allow SmartApps Corporation to move forward confidently with the development of the needed information systems based on your document.

Be certain that your PowerPoint presentation does a good job of summarizing the highlights of your paper. Your presentation must include appropriate speaker notes for every slide.
