CarOne:

CareOne is a used car dealership located in central Pennsylvania. The company has been

in existence since 1980 and is known for providing reliable used vehicles to its

customers. However, the management is currently dissatisfied with how data is managed

within the organization. The owner will like to implement an updated database to better

satisfy the organizations needs. CarOne acquires their inventory of used vehicles in two main ways auctions and individuals. The company attends auctions in the states of Pennsylvania and Maryland. The company wants to maintain a list of the different dates, locations and times of the auctions that they attend. The company also wants to maintain information on the individuals that they purchase vehicles from. Individuals refer to people who sell used car to CarOne and then receive cash for it.

Currently there are 6 sales associates that are full time employees of CarOne. Each

employee receives a flat salary and a commission based on the number of vehicles that

they sell each month. The business is very competitive and employees are highly

motivated to sell vehicles. To give accurate credit for sales, the company must keep clear

records of which employees sells which vehicles. For each vehicle, the company keeps a very detailed record on paper. Some of the information includes make, model, year, VIN (vehicle identification number), color and condition. To determine how long a particular vehicle remains on the lot, the company also records the date of its arrival and the date that it was sold.

The main customers of CarOne are residents of PA and surrounding states that are

looking for a cheap discounted vehicle in good condition. The company also wants to

determine what percentage of its customers, are providing repeat business. Consequently, for each purchase they maintain information on the customer such as name, address,

phone, and reason for purchase.
