Case Study A Licensing Officer received a complaint about a facility operating within their region. The complainant reported that her father, Colin, was living alone in the facility and did not seem to be receiving an appropriate level of care. Colin has moderate to advanced dementia and was reported to be in severe decline. Based on the information provided, the Licensing Officer conducted a site inspection, interviewed staff, and noted the following: Sixteen elderly residents were residing at the facility at the time of the inspection. No residents with mental health or substance abuse issues. Three residents were documented to have significant mobility limitations. Two residents require regular urgent/unscheduled health services. Some residents did their own laundry, but some had difficulty with this so the staff would help those residents. Residents were provided a locked safe in their rooms where they could store their valuables (staff did not have access). Residents or their family members did their banking. Four residents were dependent on caregivers for continued assistance. A monthly calendar of social and recreational activities (such as games and movie viewings) was posted on the bulletin board. The staff administered medication to some residents every morning and evening. Many residents needed some help with bathing/showering and getting dressed. Review the relevant legislation and then answer the following questions: (a) Determine how many Assisted Living Services are being provided here (clearly setting out which ones are being provided and why you think this). (b) Determine how many Hospitality Services are being provided here (clearly setting out which ones are being provided and why you think this). (c) Are Assisted Living Residences and Community Care Facilities both required to have a licence?
