Chapters 9 and 10 in the textbook describe the different criteria for a one-sample hypothesis test and a two-sample hypothesis test.

"In hypothesis testing, you reject the null hypothesis when the sample evidence suggests that it is far more likely that the alternative hypothesis is true. However, failure to reject the null hypothesis is not proof that it is true. You can never prove that the null hypothesis is correct because the decision is based only on the sample information, not on the entire population. Therefore, if you fail to reject the null hypothesis, you can only conclude that there is insufficient evidence to warrant its rejection (p. 286)."

Instructions

Post an example of a scenario that would warrant either a one-sample or a two-sample test. This can be a hypothetical example, but you have to justify your post. You have to detail why your hypothetical example qualifies as either a one- or two-sample test. (Please recognize that one- and two-sample tests are not the same as one- or two-tail tests.)

Students are required to include a working link to the news article. After youve posted your original post, you are also required to post at least one substantive response to a peers post.

Its to your advantage to post early in the discussion window as media articles can only be used once. The student posting a media article that has already been used will earn a maximum of half the points for the discussion. Note that media need not be used for this discussion but you may.

You are also highly encouraged to read your peers posts before you post, to ensure that articles arent being used twice and that your post is on the right track. If you use a news article, please include the link.
