Everyone's brain works a little different then others. Some people remember things for long periods of time and others struggle to remember what they ate for breakfast. However, in most cases traumatic experiences are something that isn't easily forgotten regardless of memory span. According to News Medical, one of the ways that the brain copes with trauma is disassociation. This is where the brain can essentially block a memory. The mind can alter traumatic memories simply due to emotions. As stated by the phoenix society, there is a handful of neurochemicals that rush to the emotional part of the brain during traumatic situations disconnecting reasoning part of the brain.
