Comment on the following: One benefit from the military that I think could be applied to help civilian workers and their families to reduce work-life conflict is the Military Parental Leave Program. This benefit is all-inclusive in terms of who it applies to; birth parents, same-sex couples, adoptive parents, foster parents, and surrogate parents. As of December 27, 2022 all parents are entitled to twelve weeks of paid leave that is nonchargeable, meaning that they do not have to use their earned leave days towards this. Birth mothers are authorized an additional six weeks of leave if medically recommended. While I understand that most jobs in the civilian sector are not federally funded and would likely struggle to allow for twelve weeks of paid time off, I think that this policy could possibly be implemented with a shorter time frame; four to eight weeks instead of twelve, to alleviate some of the financial challenges faced by employers. Like the military, this policy would begin on the first full day following discharge from the hospital and end four to eight weeks later.
