Company A secured a contract to remove large quantity of cargo from the cliff and transport from point x to point Y to fulfill this contract they company B wished to hire a seagoing barge.Company a quoted a hire pice to company B in a letter which stated the carrying capacity of the barge in weight, but made no mention of its carrying capacity in terms of volume. At a meeting Company B asked the representative of company A about the carrying capacity of the barge in terms of the volume.Representative of company A quoted a figure which was based on her honest recollection of the figure stated n ship's documents. In reliance on this figure, company B hired the barge, signing a written contract which contained no reference to the capacity of the barge in terms of volume.

It later turned that representative of company A had misremembered the figure in the ship's documents and so her statement about the volume of the barge was wrong. Barge's true volume was very much less than the figure quoted . As a result Company B had to make many more contracts from point X to point Y than what they anticipated and suffered economic losses.
