Composition of Force Vectors Lab Introduction: Two different forces often act on an object. The angle between these forces may be between \( 0^{2} \) and \( 180^{\circ} \). The resultant of these two forces is the single force which could be substituted for them, which would have the same effect. The equilibrant of these two forces is the single force which can produce equilibrium with them. The equikbrant is equal in magnitude but opposite in direction to the resultant.

Purpose: To find the resultant and equilibrant of two or more forces acting on a ring. Apparatus: Composition-of-force board; washer; 3 table clamp pulleys; string, mass set General Procedure: For each part of the lab, make sure the washer is above the board with the strings pulling over the pulley at equal heights.

Part A: Use 2 hanging masses and attach them via the string to the washer. Make them pull in opposite directions \( \left(180^{\circ} ight) \). Record the masses on each hanger and convert to the force. Mass 1 = Weight \( 1= \) Scale 1:

Mass \( 2= \) Weight 2 = Scale 2:

What is the magnitude of the resultant force?
