1) In a large plate with L-2 cm thickness and thermal conductivity k 0 5 Wim, heat generation rate is q=1000 kWm. The faces of A and B are kept at temperatures of TA=100 C and Ts 200 C respectively. Because the dimensions of the plate in y and z directions are so large that the temperature gradients are important in the x direction only a) Write the governing ordinary differential equation and the boundary conditions of this one dimensional steady state heat conduction problem (T(x)) b) Discretize the ODE using second order central differencing for the diffusive term (finite differences). Write the set of linear algebraic equations to be solved and solve the problem numerically on the grid given in Figure 1. Compare your result with the analytical solution of the problem by plotting them on the same graph c) Discretize the ODE using finite volumes approach. Write the set of linear algebraic equations to be solved and solve the problem numerically on the grid given in Figure 1. Compare your result with the analytical solution of the problem by plotting them on the same graph. 8x 2 1 3 1 w w e E | 8x/2 | ex Ex | 8x/2
