Congratulations! you have been recently appointed as general manager of ABC Co, a multibillion-dollar corporation that's main line of business is consumer electronics. now the bad news, the company has been facing declining revenues for the past few years and your mission is of course to fix it all - you will use the management expertise that you have accumulated from studying chapters 1,2,3 and 8 to solve its many problems. before you dive in, here below is a detailed background ...
Background:
The corporation was established in 1968 - it was growing rapidly under the leadership of Mr. Kawasaki until he retired. since then, All the general managers that succeeded him failed to keep the company growing and recently, sales started declining - there was obviously something wrong with top management.
Employees were also complaining about various things, some quit the company.
Add to that the uncertain, complex and chaotic times we live in (corona virus, high unemployment, etc..) and you have the best recipe for a disaster.
There was no real communication between the various departments and all department heads considered themselves to be the Boss. there was a feeling among lots of employees that there was no clear direction to where the company was heading, and a sense of belonging was absent. In addition, some considered that they were not paid fairly (market rate) or that their colleagues were paid more.
There were also doubts on the hiring policies of the HR department for example, most of the current employees had the same skin color and many job applications were secretly rejected because of the sexual orientation of the candidates.
On the other hand, Global competition has managed to take considerable market share from ABC co and proper company resources were not invested in new technologies to stay on par with competition. Political uncertainty wasn't helping either.
The organizational environment was under attack as well from:
1-customers who were dissatisfied with customer care and after sales services
2- suppliers who were not well attended to due to the lack of a specific department in ABC co that was supposed to cater to their needs
