Estimate scenario: You are the estimator and are trying to calculate the general expenses for the Wake Tech Building #5, Main Campus bid. Using the following information, calculate the general expenses and place them in the proper sequence (see page 255, Figure 14.1) on the supplied General Expenses Excel Spreadsheet. Also look at page 271, figure 14.10 on how to fill out a General Expense Report. Remember you may need to make some conversions to a unit rate such as days, hours, miles, No., etc., and do not forget to fill out the project information.

Project length: 125 days, including weekends

(90 total work days, 8 hours per day))

Office trailer: $87 per day

Set-up, take-down = 2 hours each

Labor = $20 per hour

Port-a-johns: 3 @ $60 per month (or portion of month)

Site security: Private security guard service @ $30 per hour (24 hours)

Stakeout: 13 hours

1 surveyor @ $60 per hour

1 helper @ $18 per hour

Stakes and tapes = $90 total

Hoarding/storage: 3 temporary storage buildings @ 20 x 20 each

Price for rental: $4 per square foot per month or portion of month

Labor price for set-up and take-down, $100 each total.

Project Superintendent: wages, $225 per day

Travel expense: $.35 per mile for round trip of 80 miles per day

Travel time: based on per minute salary cost and 1 mile per minute

Payroll additive = 40%

Assistant Superintendent: wages, $150 per day;

Travel expense and travel time and payroll additive: same as superintendent.

Site access: 40 length gravel road to site.

Temporary site services:
