Define Informed Consent .How would you describe informed consent to a client? What does it include? when is it needed in a therapeutic relationship? What additional information would need to be in the informed consent when providing distance counseling? Refer to section H.2.a of the RCA Code of Ethics. Informed consent is signed by the clientl' patient before treatment begins. Informed consent authorizes the therapist or provider to educate the client about the possible risks, benefits and alternatives for treatment. Iwould explain informed consent to a client as a legal document that states possible risks and benefits of treatment. Iwould explain to the client it is a legal document that states the client understands what those are and proceed. The informed consent covers the therapist liability. Informed consent is needed for every therapeutic relationship established, at the first visit. If distance counseling was provided, I would inform the client of technologyr risks, such as technology failure, anticipated response time, emergency protocols such as when I am not available, social media privacy, and possible insurance claim denials
