The construction industry is a major part of the overall economy in the United States and is similar to others in that firms must manage capital (both human and financial) in order to remain competitive and viable, comply with regulatory requirements, etc. However, construction is also very different from other industries, too.

For this post, please compare the management of a construction project with that of a manufacturing operation or industrial processing? Are there strategies and techniques that can be shared? Are there skill sets that are unique to construction that do not apply to the others?

There are different arrangements used in construction to deliver the completed project to the owner. For example, some owners are not willing or able to take any risk or responsibility in the project and therefore enter a contract with a firm to deliver the project by a specific date for a specific sum. This is what is referred to as the traditional contract delivery method. For this weeks discussion, lets talk about these various contract delivery methods.
