1) The case that I am choosing to talk about is United States vs. Scott. Scott was convicted on charges of racketeering, accepting unlawful labor payments, and income tax evasion and headed the International Longshoremen's Association. Scott was indicted for drug distribution. Before and during the trial Scott moved the court to dismiss two counts claiming undue delays had harmed his ability to put on a defense. After all evidence had been presented, the motion to dismiss was granted (Swearingen, 2023). I think is crazy that they dismissed the case. Because of the extended period of time that has elapsed since the commission of the offenses in question, he has undertaken a review of the intercepted conversations rather than remanding them for additional consideration by the trial court (Casetext, 2022). So, because there wasn't enough evidence when the case started the government wanted to use RICO to freeze the case until, they were able to get the evidence to make a trial. They do so they can make sure that they have everything that they need to make sure that the defendant is found guilty. After the five-day trial, the jury convicted Scott of healthcare fraud (Justia, 2019)

2) The case I found on the internet was a Gangster Disciples enforcer and hitman convicted of RICO murder, killing witness, and other violent crimes. Local, state and federal law enforcement worked with federal prosecutors to build a case in a decade-long investigation into the Gangster Disciples and Brandon Durell Hardison who was also known as the Creep and Creeper da Reeper was convicted of RICO. Hardison was convicted of RICO conspiracy, murder in aid of racketeering, causing death through the use of a firearm, murder of a witness to prevent communications to a law enforcement official regarding a federal offense, and assault resulting in serious bodily injury in aid of racketeering (Gangster Disciples Enforcer and Hitman Convicted of RICO Murder, Killing Witness, and Other Violent Crimes, 2021).

"The Gangster Disciples are a highly organized enterprise, operating under the national of a corporate board-style group that was responsible for gang decisions at a national level, and the state and regional leadership of "governors" and other subordinate gang members who were responsible for the gang's activities in specific geographic regions" (Gangster Disciples Enforcer and Hitman Convicted of RICO Murder, Killing Witness, and Other Violent Crimes, 2021). The prosecutors had evidence that Hardison conspired to participate in Gangster Disciples affairs. Hardison killed a gang associate for not paying a drug debt and killed the girlfriend so she could not call the police. There was evidence that he and co-conspirators assaulted rival gang members. Hardison and other gang members were engaged in drug trafficking, witness intimidation to keep them from cooperating with law enforcement, protected the gang's drug territory, financed the enterprise and violently enforced gang rules (Gangster Disciples Enforcer and Hitman Convicted of RICO Murder, Killing Witness, and Other Violent Crimes, 2021). Hardison was convicted under RICO and for his sentencing, he received Life plus 20 years in prison.
