Now that you have watched the filmLa ley de Herodes(The Law of Herod), and read Chapter 8 of Daniel Hernandez'sDown & Delirious in Mexico City, reflect on the phenomenon of corruption in Mexican politics and society. Drawing on specific examples from both the reading and the film, address the following:

1. How/why do you think Mexico has continued to experience corruption, exploitation, and violent repression, even when apparently radical changes have taken place in socio-political structures?
2. How might this corruption be connected to the history of colonization? How might it be connected to the history of neo-colonial imperialism by the United States?
