Do employers and employees have common or competing goals? why or why not?
What I have:
The functioning of society depends on systems of production, distribution, consumption, and overall organization. Around the globe the system of functioning is capitalism, those who support this system claim "Capitalism is the only possible way of successfully organizing economic life in the contemporary world"(Kasser et al., 2007 p.1). The values and goals of a capitalist society are to gain power and authority over people and resources. Capitalist values are relevant to the argument of this paper because they instill a competitive culture of self-enhancement and interest. Competing against society to gain as much power and wealth as one can, essentially means an individual is working in opposition to everyone else. The battle against one another can also be seen in the workplace, not only are employees working against each other for wealth accumulation; employers are working against employees to create maximum profits and potentially climb the proverbial ladder.
