Do you agree or disagree with those statements, and why?

Emotions are complex in the sense that the ways emotions are expressed vary from person to person, in the video for this week's discussion Dr. Davidson hints at that and at his fascination with how emotions vary in how it is expressed. This brought back a memory of mine when I was a teenager and I had gone hiking with some friends, it had gotten dark outside and we had gotten lost, we also started hearing noises that we thought might have been a mountain lion or coyote. In that instance, we were all struck with fear. That emotion of fear looked different on each of us. I for example started to laugh uncontrollably, another friend cried, and another got angry, the emotion looked and manifested itself differently in each of us. In this week's reading, I learned the importance of emotions which help us adapt to the opportunities of challenges we face during important life events, in this instance our fear of dying or being lost served its purpose of protecting us but it also served as a motivation to help us figure out how to get out of the situation we were in. The fear energized us into action and we found ourselves collaborating, thinking more clearly, and finding a solution to our immediate problem. The study of affective neuroscience is interesting to me and as I listened to Dr. Davidson speak it made me question my theories on emotions. I believe that emotions are related to activity in brain areas and direct us into action, motivation, or help us make decisions. However, using emotions constructively is not something that comes naturally to everyone. In the article I researched by Armeta et al., professionals in this field aimed to understand how positive emotions can lead to longer-term benefits and how they serve as motivators for self-improvement. The research suggests that when an individual experiences positive emotions they are more motivated to continue performing at a higher level which helps them reach positive changes in their lives. Just like the example I provided on fear being what ignited our clarity in that moment emotions can be extremely helpful in problem-solving it just depends on the person experiencing it to determine whether the emotions they feel are going to be used productively or not.
