Drugs disable the normal function of the brain and psychology professionals need to be mindful of the effects of psychotropic drugs on their clients. Psychology professionals have a responsibility to their clients to be helpful and not cause harm. When a drug is introduced to the brain, the possibility of toxicity, side effects or overdose is always present. With this in mind:

Compare pharmacological actions to non-pharmacological reactions specific to side effects and or overdose.

• Explain how the effects of drugs and dosage on the brain disrupt brain function. Provide an example.
• Discuss implications of long-term drug use. Provide an example of tolerance.
• Make the case for or against medicating an individual. Please support your stance.
