During a General Assembly held in April 2021, the United Nations Special Rapporteur, Dr Tlaleng Mofokeng, reported on priority themes of which Innovation and digital t interventions and telehealth was identified. Dr Mofoken drew attention to accessibility and affordability as factors that should be considered for universal access to healt which cannot be divorced from policies as it will continue to transform healthcare and enable users to enjoy the highest attainable standard of health

South Africa has made progress towards the United Nations: Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 3) 2030 and national policies such as the National Health Insurance P, National Health Insurance Bill of 2019 and the Health National 2021 Normative Standards Framework for interoperability in Digital Health. In particular, the National Healt Standards Framework for interoperability in Digital Health aims to create a comprehensive national information system that can inform decision-making.
