It consists of an item from popular culture that you have discovered outside of class, plus an analysis of it using the readings and concepts introduced in the course. These items can be movies, songs, videos, blog posts, images, artworks, poems, stories, novels, memoirs, opinion essays, or news articles. Each item is to be paired with a short analytical discussion in which you identify a specific concept, argument, or reading that the item relates to, and creatively and critically discuss the item's philosophical importance. Deadline There are three MPs due, each with its own deadline - see the online dropboxes and the Schedule of Readings for details. Formatting Each item that is included in the portfolio should contain a header with the following entries: Subject: the name of the item that you will be discussing below Link: a hyperlink to either the item being discussed or something that uniquely identifies it, such as an IMDB entry for a film, etc. This should be something that will let me find a copy for myself. Key texconcept: either the name of the reading that the item pertains to, or the key concept that it references Discussion: a 500-700 word discussion of how the item exemplifies, challenges, or otherwise engages with the course material Content The discussion section should make it clear how the item relates to specific aspects of the course content. There are a lot of ways that the items can engage with themes from the course. A story might raise an interesting problem for a particular philosophical theory, a film might exemplify a particular dilemma especially vividly, a personal essay might contain the seeds of an alternative way of framing key issues, and so on. For some items such as artworks, videos, poems, and so on, it may be necessary to make these connections more explicit than others, but you are free to take the discussion here in any direction that you would like, as long as it is well-grounded in a plausible reading of the target item and the course material that it engages with
