Ethyl acetate (C4H8O2) is an essential chemical for many industries. The most common use for ethyl acetate is as a hardener for paint and as a solvent on wood, plastic, and varnish coating. It can be obtained by Fischer Esterification in which ethanol (C2H5OH) reacts with acetic acid (C2H4O2) to produce ethyl acetate and water. Ethanol+AceticAcidEthylAcetate+Water Part of its production process is depicted in the diagram below. In it a fresh feed of reactants enters in Stream 1. This stream is combined with a recycled stream (Stream 7) containing acetic acid and water. When combined, the reactants entering the reactor (Stream 2) enter in stoichiometric proportions and the acetic acid per pass conversion is 50%. Stream 3 , containing the products and the unreacted reactants, enters the distillation column in which all the acetic acid and some water exits in Stream 5 and the mole fraction of acetic acid is 90%. All the ethyl acetate produced in the reactor exits in Stream 4. Stream 4 also contains water and ethanol. Stream 5 is then splitted and 20% of it is purged into Stream 6 to avoid the accumulation of water in the system. If the flow of ethvl acetate in Stream 3 is 100kmol/h, determine the information requested below. c) Determine the % excess of the second reactant.
