Exam Vignette: Read the following vignette and answer question 1
Matt and Lissette have been having many arguments in their romantic relationship. Specifically, Lissette is very anxious in their relationship. She fears Matt doesn't truly love her and will eventually leave her. As a result, she tends to start arguments by questioning Matt anytime he wants to go out with his friends and accuses him of cheating on her. Matt tries to reassure her that he loves her but is starting to become annoyed by Lissette's behavior and reports that he feels "smothered." Lissette is unhappy too, and is afraid of losing Matt. Afterall, all her previous relationships have failed. She agrees to go see a therapist for individual therapy to work on her "issues."
Cognitive Therapy
1.) Imagine that you are a clinical psychologist trained in cognitive therapy. Lissette comes to see you for individual therapy. From the cognitive model, what is causing Lissette's relationship problems? What is causing her anxiety? What are some of the strategies you would use following this approach (use terminology specific to this therapy)?
