Exercise: Weighing Evidence 2 Read the following passage and consider the different examples of evidence presented. Who makes the best pizza in Belmont? In this pizza lover's opinion, Pie in the Sky gets the decisive nod over Slice of Heaven, the only other legitimate contender. As someone who has lived in Belmont all his life and sampled every pizza joint in town, I ought to know. In the countless times I've frequented Pie in the Sky over 20 years, I have never been disappointed in the pizza. I can't say the Same about the local competition. Once, in my experience, Slice of Heaven turned out a memorably mediocre ple. Comparing the Slice to the Sky is like equating a Toyota Camry with a Cadillac Escalade. Yes, they're both quality rides-but one's a mere sporty sedan while the other is a head-turning luxury model. There's a reason why there's always a long line of customers snaking out the door at Pie in the Sky on Friday and Saturday nights. You can't park within two blocks of the place. What greater testament to superiority could there be than hungry people who are willing to endure a hike and a long wait for their favorite pizza? A few years ago, a buddy of mine-a confirmed pizza maniac-moved an hour and a half away from Belmont. Ever since, twice a month, he has driven back here for no other purpose than to patronize the Sky. It's a small price to pay, he likes to say, to continue to enjoy the Supreme pizza. If you don't trust my or my pal's judgment, ask the "Chow Hound." He's the food critic for the Daily Herald. Every year he does a feature in which he ranks the Most Awesome Pizza in Lincoln County. And every year the Sky's "combo deluxe" makes his top 5 "Pies to Die for." If the estimation of the "Chow Hound" doesn't persuade you, consider what the culinary program at our local state college concluded. Last year Students in the program did a quality assessment of pizza in the greater Belmont area. Their assessment followed a rigorous protocol and considered a dozen separate quality criteria. The result? The Sky earned the researchers' "Gold Medal," an honor achieved by only 3 other pizza parlors among the 50 that were evaluated. The study findings were published in the peer-reviewed Journal of Culinary Standards. Identity three examples of evidence from the passage above.
