Experiential Activity. We know much less about the consequences of voluntary turnover than we do about its causes. To improve your understanding of the consequences of turnover for employers and employees, interview four people who are currently employed or were employed until recently. All four people should be familiar with a particular industry. For example, if you are interested in retailing, select four people with experience in the retail industry or, select four musicians if that is the career you aspire to. The four interviews can be conducted with class members, family members, coworkers, or anyone you choose. Your goal in conducting the four interviews is to generate a list of all the ways turnover affects employers and employees in a particular industry. Working individually or in small teams, prepare a brief presentation that summarizes all the consequences of turnover (both positive and negative) that you identify during the interviews. Use a template like Table 5.1 to organize your results.
