1. BJT Fundamentals In the lab, you find the device in Figure 1 and it is labeled as an npn BJT. The terminals are labeled X, Y, and Z. The specification sheet only states BF=95, BR=10, VBE(ON)=0.7V, and VCE(SAT)=0.1V. You do not have a DCA Pro available to take measurements. The only measurement tool you have available is the Analog Discovery 2. -Vec x Z BJT Figure 1. Three terminal device figure 2. BJT Bias Circuit A. (Explain how you could experimentally determine which terminal is the base. Be specific in any measurements you would make. To identify the other terminals, it is suggested that you bias this device with the circuit shown in Figure 2. You connect the base terminal to R1 and use the following values for the other components: VBB=3V, VCC=10V, R1=450kohm, R2=10kohm, R3=2kohm B. Before you test the device in the circuit, you decide to do some calculations beforehand to know what to expect. Draw possible orientations of the BJT(with base connected to R1) in the circuit in Figure 2 and calculate the point of each circuit. C. You now build the circuit in Figure 2 with the device and make measurements with the Analog Discovery 2 to help you determine the identity of the other two terminals. Describe at least 4 measurements you would make to figure out the orientation of the device - be sure to include how the results will help you with the identification of the terminals. D. If the device was a pnp BJT, how would that change your expected results in parts B & C. 1. BJT Fundamentals In the lab, you find the device in Figure 1 and it is labeled as an npn BJT.
