Fluids and Hydraulics Lab ENSC 3231 Orifice flow meters lab - FALL 2023 Objective: You are required to calibrate and validate the Coefficient of discharge (Cd) of the orifice meter in the hydraulic Channel. Fig. 1: 6-inch Hydraulic Channel with the Flowrate Meters in series. Background: The hydraulic channel in the lab is 6 inches in width and 8 foot long and has various internals such as pipe flow set, SAF stilling basin, pipe drop inlet, hydraulic jump basin, sluice gate w/ pressure taps, V-notch weir, wave generator, broad crest weir, spillway section, inclined slope, flow nozzle/pipe orifice, venturi meter, sudden contraction/expansion, gauge carriage, pitot tube, differential manometers, Reynolds Experiment Apparatus There is a head tank with adjustable undershot gate, movable tailgate, reservoir, circulating pump(s), flow meter and flow control valves along with a motorized jacking system that can adjust the slope of the channel bed. All the working channel sections are fabricated of clear acrylic, which provides leak proof joints with twice the impact resistance of tempered plate glass. To understand how to do the lab, let us first understand Bernoulli's principle and how it can be applied to the flowmeters. Bernoulli's principle is as follows and the ideal
