For organisations to develop and sustain a long-term competitive advantage, they need to incorporate and effectively manage change. This change is influenced by the context in which the organisation operates, such as developments in its industry, changes in technology and market needs, as well as internal factors such as leadership, culture, and behavioural aspects of the employees.
In Australia, Telstra, Australia Post, CSL Limited and Qantas have a long history of change starting as small agencies and becoming large and important organisations today, while still facing many future challenges and changes.
The industry context of these organisations has also changed and been influenced by factors such as technology, social and demographic changes, globalisation, environmental and sustainability regulations and others. Consider, for example, the effect of the internet on the way we communicate, and the emails we send and how this has impacted on the telecommunications industry and postal service industry
The purpose of this task is to research, describe and evaluate the changes that your chosen organisation has incorporated and managed over its life within the context of changes and developments in its industry.
The unit learning outcomes assessed are:
- LO1: Critique the nature, causes and dynamics of organisational change;
- LO2: Identify, critically review and distil key issues affecting change in organisations;
- LO3: Explain, evaluate and propose modifications to the theories, models, principles and concepts of change in organisations to better support innovative approaches to successful organisational change occurring in particular settings;
- LO5: Reflect on behavioural complexities associated to organisational change.

This report involves the construction of a case study of a prominent Australian organisation. The case study should describe the changes that the organisation has incorporated and managed over the last 25 years.
You have a choice of researching one of the following organisations: Telstra, Australia Post, Qantas and CSL Limited.

- From publicly available articles, reports, and websites, research, provide an outline and, briefly discuss, up the changes that the selected organisation has undergone in the last 25 years, including leadership, culture, behaviour, technological, and market/consumer changes
- From publicly available sources: articles, reports, and websites, research, provide an outline and, briefly discuss, the key developments and changes in the history of the industry of the organisation and how this context influenced changes in your organisation
- From the research that you have done in points 2 and 3 above, assess and evaluate against 2 management models, principles, concepts, and theories how your organisation managed the change that it faced. The management models that you use can include those described in the unit resource material such as the change models of Kotter, Lewis, and Beer and Nohria as well as Adaptive leadership model.
