For the gas station site your firm has been provided a budget of $30,000 to perform a field investigation. Design an investigation to further evaluate the extent of contamination at and downgradient of the gas station site. Identify locations of additional borings and sample depths. Identify locations of new monitoring wells and screen intervals. Identify analyses to be performed. The budget for field investigation must not exceed $30,000. Use the following assumptions a. A field engineer or geologist should be budgeted to oversee and/or perform all field activities (drilling, well installation, soil sampling, groundwater sampling).

b. A hollow stem auger drill rig can advance up to 80 feet per day including well installation and soil sampling. The daily rate for a rig and operator is $1850 with a one-time mobilization fee of $900. C. At least one week should separate well installation and sampling water from a monitoring well.

d. A field technician can sample 3 monitoring wells in one day e. A field engineer/scientist labor rate is $950 per day f. Soil/groundwater sampling equipment and vehicle rental is $250 per day g. Well construction materials are approximately $45 per vertical foot h. Maximum recommended monitoring well screen is 10 feet i. Disposal of investigation derived waste should be estimated at $300 per 55 gallon drum or soil or water. Assume 0.125 cubic feet of soil cuttings per vertical foot of drilling and 3 gallons of purge water per monitoring well sampled. j. See attached for laboratory analytical costs from Acme Labs k. Budget 8 hours for yourself to plan the investigation ($100 per hour), 2 hours per day for each day of field work to coordinate with the field technician, and 25 hours to prepare a data investigation summary report. Provide a brief summary of the investigation design and rationale for decisions made. Be specific what depths to collect soil samples and vertical intervals for monitoring well screens. Include a drawing of the investigation layout.
