From your reading book Chapters 1-10 of "Brown's Boundary Control and Legal Principles", list as a reply in this discussion, THREE terms or phrases you think are meaningful because you learned something from learning them, AND/OR are worth remembering because they are probably useful concepts for a land surveyor to remember AND/OR because they were surprising or unusual. List the three words or phrases, each to a separate line. Then pick one of them and explain what it means and why you picked it. See example below.

Livery of seisin

Seven Ranges

"Of" Description

My pick: "Of" Description. I always thought that other than a metes and bounds or lot and block (which includes aliquot parts of section) descriptions, that "of" descriptions would be ones that I would be writing most frequently. I was surprised to discover in Section 5.9 of Brown that there are many more types than I originally thought. And that it is recommended to refrain from using "of" descriptions, such as 'the southerly 5 acres of Tract A' because such "...descriptions are fraught with possibilities for misunderstanding and errors" (Robillard and Wilson, p. 113)

In expanding on my pick, I explain what the phrase means with an example given in the last sentence. I also differentiate this type of description from others. And I quote from the book as to why I think it is important to remember why to avoid this type of description.
