  • Collect any relevant information from the student's existing Individual and learning support plan, where you are able to. (Depending on confidential nature of the existing plans the teacher might be limited in what they are able to share with you but may give you specific strategies to use.)

  • Gather information from the student (only if appropriate). There is no need to question the student, however the student might share incidental information with you via conversation or chats in class. e.g., interests, likes, dislikes. Please do not include student's personal or confidential information. Ensure the student's sense of safety and well-being is considered at all times.

Include information about student strengths, interests, support needs, learning styles, challenges, triggers, calmers and any other relevant additional information

Using the Summary and Plan Tables below (Tables 4 and 5), insert the information into the relevant spaces under the appropriate headings.

  • Using your findings from your three observations and all other information collected provide a summary of your information gathered to complete the table below.

During the next week implement a minimum of three of the suggested strategies from your list. Make a note of the ones you used and any equipment you provided to support the student.

  • What do you discuss with the teacher or other SLSO about the strategies?
