Q

W is scalar and takes into account the magnitude of force and displacement. The cosangle is what gives the positive or negative value to work which is not so much about the direction but moreso about the opposite direction of the force and displacement.

Now is it the same with Work by gravitational force? Where if an objects height increases it will be -mgh where Fgrav is in the opposite direction as the displacement however, the directions are not taken into account as vectors. But if an objects height increases would it be mgh where the Fgrav is positive, or would it be the height that is negative? If the height is negative, I thought height did not have negative values?

Please explain W=-mgh or W= mgh

*I am aware that the change of potential energy is the opposite of work.
