Introduction

International trade is the backbone of the Canadian economy. Canada has been successfully relying on imports and exports to boost its rising standards of living. Currently, exports and imports are about 65 percent of the country's output, giving them the highest ratios among the developed countries. Residents of Prairies depend on the exportation of grains, oil, and potash to markets outside the country's borders. Canada imports most of the products they consume plus tools, t-shirts, and tractors. The country has been attempting to exploit innovative ways on how to grow their market share and also coming up with new products, which they create a market.

In many areas, innovations in the fields of logistics and information communication technologies have led to a rise in new product development, production, and selling them. The most unique and valuable trend is the global value chain emergence, which is characterized by the location of various production stages within different countries. In this context, the continuous lowering of trade barriers globally has diverse effects on trade. The establishment of trade agreements has increased economic integration resulting from increased productivity and a boost to living standards.

The paper will focus on the positive and the negative impacts of international trade or globalization on Canada. It consists of a review on factors like innovation, changing the nature of international trade, and the benefits to Canada.
