Greener environment

We believe that the most important ESG issues facing Air Canada involve energy / fuel consumption , safety , and customer data protection and privacy . Airlines are large emitters of greenhouse gases and with the ongoing transition towards sustainable fuels globally throughout the transportation industry , we view positively AC 's goals of targeting net zero GHG emissions by 2050 in addition to a 20 % net reduction in GHG emissions from flights and a 30 % reduction from ground operations by 2030 . While AC ranked in the top 3 % of airlines included in the IATA 2019 Operational Safety Audit , we continue to view passenger safety as a top ESG consideration and see AC 's retirement of older aircraft during 2020 as leaving the company well - positioned to further improve its safety rating . Finally , with technology and data analytics becoming an increasingly important part of airline revenue management and customer service , we see potential cyber- security attacks / data breaches as an important area of ESG focus for AC - particularly as it relates to customer data / privacy .
