Health Status is the measurement of an individual's relative level of wellness and illness. It also considers the presence of biological or physiological dysfunction, symptoms and functional impairment. Health perceptions or perceived health status are subjective ratings affected by individual of his or her health status. Health status can be measured by diet, exercise, water intake, medical conditions, medications, medical treatment compliance, vaccinations, geographical history, environmental history, family history, risk factors that can affect future health and can include other forms of information. Depending on the program specific parameters can be applied with specific information needs can be set. Measuring Health Status is important in determining life expectancy, quality of life, future demands of aging populations on the health care system, disease specific measurements that aid in health research and potential public health program demands. With more people living longer due to medical advancements public health programs will be in high demand and may not be able to support such a demand. There is a high potential need for additional resources and budgeting set by state and federal grants, loans or other spending bills. Also any trends can be found based on certain information obtained that might otherwise be missed without collecting this information.
