Non-rational decision-making creates unrealistic assumptions to streamline possible predictions and choices. In particular, the decision limits the amount of information available to the individual and their ability to process it effectively. Still, individual decision-making regularly seeks a satisfactory resolution rather than the optimal one since individuals need more ability and resources to attain unique solutions (1). In many cases, the non-rational decision can be made by individuals either on their job or lifestyle. The decision can be daunting to the individual, as was when I once made a non-rational decision.

The non-rational decision I took was satisficing the work. The local team invited me to join a special projects team they were forming to evaluate the authenticity of student submissions to our division. In practice, the academic department is crucial in evaluating the student's documents and upholding academic ethics (3). Since I had no prior experience collaborating with students or colleagues from other regions or communicating with them, I assumed that all regions utilized the same criteria for evaluation. I had based the decision on the premise that academic integrity and guidelines are uniform.

However, when I came across one of the student's papers, I suspected it had been forged. As a result, I emailed the office manager about the likely policy breach. As an alternative to responding to my email, the manager arranged for the regional managers to email me, stating that the paper was authentic based on the constructed sentences. It was a very awkward situation considering I expected a remarkable working experience that could enhance my professional development. Since I had never seen anything remotely similar to this in my region before, I immediately concluded it was false and against the firm's regulations. I apologized to everyone affected by the situation and went to a session where we discussed regional solutions to the problem. After spending the past four months as a member of the special projects team, I have realized the need to check in with those in authority before drawing any hasty conclusions.

The outcome made me rethink my approach while dealing with complicated and pressing issues. In particular, employing rational decision-making offers a more satisfying decision without backlash (2). I would have recognized the issue considering the varying approaches. In particular, I needed advice from various sources to comprehend and evaluate the situation. As I did such a bad job investigating the situation, I did not bother to ask the office manager any more questions. As such, I would have identified the preferred action course. By eliminating the assumptions, I will reduce the issue's impact that tainted my image and potential career development.

By implementing the appropriate action course, I will be expected to offer additional information regarding the situation that could aid the manager in uncovering the situation. It will have allowed that manager to undertake a preferred action plan. In addition, the manager will not agree that the outcome and situation uncovered were illogical when the issue had been investigated. Thus, the manager will not find any possible contract violations that have been committed. However, my lack of preparedness and information regarding organizational policies was the only factor contributing to this problem.
