Introduction

Local Immigration Partnerships have played a crucial role in Canada's effort to provide resettlement services to displaced people (due to wars, human rights issues, and other adverse circumstances) and immigrants. As of 2017, Canada has received more than 50,000 newcomers refugees and is in the process of welcoming thousands more (Cullen & WaltonRoberts, 2019). As a result of this reality, the Federal and Provincial governments continue to finance the activities of nonprofit organizations that provide resettlement and other newcomer-related services to improve the lives of immigrants and refugees entering Canada. Research has demonstrated the excellent communal impact of these organizations in Saskatchewan, as well as their distinctive contribution to the province's ability to attract and retain newcomer immigrants in urban and rural locations (Cullen & WaltonRoberts, 2019). This sort of organization is exemplified by the Regina Region Local Immigration Partnership (RRLIP), governed by the board of directors of the Regina Open Door Society. RRLIP is a nonprofit organization dedicated to welcoming and aiding immigrants in the Regina region.

This experiential group project aims to learn about and critically assess the governance structure of the RRLIP. It will be stated that the governance of RRLIP is a broad and complex topic because it comprises many various facets, ranging from the Constitution to the federal and provincial governments. This paper will review the evolution of RRLIP from its origin to the present, but more importantly, it will outline what works in the current system and what needs reform.
