Please explain why the below 2 mistakes that managers make are the most common in management?
1. A manager will force their team to implode by playing favorites. People have seen managers give choice assignments to untrained workers because they have a friendly relationship with the team member. Supervising anyone that you are friends with or are related to. For example, if he/she recommended someone for a job and then they are constantly late or failing to accurately perform the job which they were hired for, that looks extremely bad to the rest of the team. Even if you are a manager and do make this mistake correct it quickly. People must always maintain a fair playing field when it comes to the work force you manage.
2. A manager must always set a good example. CFO of a company pick up cigarette butts in front of the building instead of asking someone else to do it. The opposite of that is a manager for a long time. If people saw trash, they picked it up, if someone was struggling, they helped and coached to make sure they were completely comfortable doing what was being asked of them. Managers often forget that with out the team there is no one to manage and no one to work. When it comes to face-to-face customer service, your team is the face of the company, not you and not the CEO, your team. Don't ask them to do something you won't do yourself and never think you are above doing anything.
