help formulate a discussion comment to this discussion post: First is the oldest theory of leadership which is the "Great Man" theory. This theory was taught by Aristotle that essentially leaders are naturally born. In essence, traits that make up a leader are given to one at birth and can not be taught to one that does not have the traits. Around the 1950s, the theory of behaviors was developed where the trait of being a leader can be taught through various tasks. This gave way to other theories such as the "carrots and sticks" theories where one leads by rewards and punishments. Between the two theories, I would have to agree more with the latter of the two. While it is evident that some may be "naturally born" as leaders, the idea that it can not be taught is simply untrue. I wish I could elaborate further on this topic but there's not much for me to explain other than I disagree with the Great Man Theory.
