Question:
Here's the one version, which uses something called a "strategy frame." Please read it through and then answer the question at the bottom.
Henry: As the four candidates assembled for the debate Republican Joe Egan greeted his Democratic opponent Ed Rendell. Those were the last kind words Egan had for the acknowledged front-runner all night. Egan went on the attack a dozen times. The others knew they had to score points against Rendell or hope he would stumble on his own.
All agreed the city's a mess and needs sweeping changes. The one issue they clearly disagree on is privatization of city services. While Egan and Rendell slugged it out, the two minor party candidates welcomed the television exposure.
And throughout the debate the candidates agreed on the need for a fundamental change in the way the city is run.
After the debate all the candidates gave themselves high marks, but did the rest of pack score against the front-runner?
But don't count out the Independents yet. Dennis Wesley, a former Republican, says he can win if he scores big in the Black community. Of course, that remains to be seen. The finish line for the race is almost here- the door to the Mayor's office at City Hall. The smart money is still riding on Ed Rendell, but his opponents still have two more televised chances to knock him off his horse.
Part of what defines strategy news coverage is that it focuses on who is winning and losing and on the motivations of the people it covers.
Please identify at least three phrases in the following transcript that help make this "strategy coverage." That is, which phrases focus on the "horse race" part of the coverage rather than the issues?
